Security and data
Where Beedy tools run, what they store, what OTIS reads, and what runs on the server.
Where the tools run
| Product | Hosting today |
|---|---|
| Plant Management Suite, Simulator, Engineer, beedy.ca | North America (a server in New York State, United States) |
| Polaris | Canada (Québec, OVH) |
Canadian hosting is available for client deployments of the plant tools. Ask a person about it.
What runs on the server
Valuable computation runs on the server: the Suite's plant model, historian and analysis, and the Engineer's design calculations. Your browser receives finished results and displays them.
What is stored
- Suite demonstration: your records go into a private sandbox tied to a browser cookie, kept 48 hours after your last activity. Every write is audited. The plant and its history are shared by all visitors.
- Engineer: designs are saved as a file on your computer, not on our server.
- Polaris: each client has its own service and its own database.
- OTIS on this website: questions and answers are logged to improve the help center, with a one-way hash of your network address in place of the address itself. No name, no email, no cookie.
What OTIS reads
In the Suite, OTIS reads the page's live data and records. On the website, he reads only this help center. He cannot change anything in either place.
On a real plant
OTIS advises; people decide. He is never in the safety loop and never changes a setpoint. Integration with a real plant is scoped per plant, with the client's control system, interlocks and people staying in charge.
