PSM · Module 2 of 12

PSI: knowing exactly what you operate

Process safety information (PSI) is everything you must know about the materials, the technology and the equipment to analyse hazards, write correct procedures and train people. When it is wrong or out of date, everything built on it is too. The manager owns it: they decide whether it is kept current or left to rot in a binder.

≈ 70 minInteractive P&ID-vs-field walkdownOperating envelopeQuiz: 8 questions
By the end of this module you will be able to:
  • name the three parts of PSI required by OSHA 1910.119 (d) and say why they must be ready before the PSA;
  • read a WHMIS 2015 SDS for what matters in operation, and build your site's incompatibility matrix;
  • tell the normal range, the alarm and the safe limit apart, and write the consequence of a deviation;
  • run a P&ID-vs-field walkdown and route each discrepancy the right way: document fix, MOC or immediate make-safe;
  • organize where PSI lives, who owns it and how MOC keeps it current.
